YET more data has emerged to add to the already burgeoning library of data that evidences the reality of climate change. This time the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado has recorded a sharp decline in the extent of summer sea ice in the Arctic polar region. Satellite images show that by September 17 the Arctic sea ice had shrunk to an area of about 3.41 million square kilometres, or 18 per cent below the previous record low of 4.17 million square kilometres set in 2007.
In context, the area of sea ice this year is about half the average summer low point recorded from 1979 to 2000. And the day the Arctic ice stops its seasonal melting and begins to refreeze has not yet been reached. Scientists expect it will occur in the next few days.
Yet Antarctica ice gains continue their three-decade upward trend:
Distracting from the news that Arctic sea-ice extent reached a record low on Sept.16 is a widely circulating blog article claiming that at the opposite end of the Earth, Antarctic sea ice is more than making up for the losses.
But it is "distracting" from the panic the global warmists are trying to build up. It's all as expected, they say.
Hey, I have another question. Why is the Arctic melting end pointed in 1979?
Could it be that in the 1970s scientists noticed the three decades of cooling from 1940 to 1970, which until then climate science said was a sign of a new ice age? I wonder what Arctic sea ice melting records would look like if we went back to 1929?
But no worries, our generation of climate scientists is way better than those ignorant yahoos.
Hey, did you know that the Chinese sailed around the Arctic circle in the 15th century and found no sea ice there?
Or that Vikings once farmed in Greenland?
Yet we are responsible for this local warming in the Arctic. Just wait, the warmists say, Antarctica will start warming just as our models say it will. Yet the models haven't predicted the flat global temperatures over the last 15 years. Something just might be obviously wrong with the models, eh?
If we lived in the warmists' computer models, no doubt we'd be screwed. But we live in the real world where jihadi nutballs are a far more relevant problem than nebulous "climate change" that somehow will kill us all if we don't accept Al Gore and the IPCC as our true lord and savior.
Now go and emit no more.
