In response, the Obama administration has issued a 1 minute video in which President Obama says, in contradiction to our 1st Amendment, that "we reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others." They're running these ads in Pakistan!
Secretary of State Hilary Clinton adds that the U.S. government had nothing to do with this video and that "We absolutely reject its content and message," as if rejecting or embracing the content produced by American exercising of free speech is even close to a legitimate function of government.
Are you freaking kidding me? Apparently, Facebook comments from the target audience are less than encouraging. Unfortunately, "we're sorry" translates into "we're weak."
We'd be better off explaining to Islamists that we know that they do not represent most Moslems and that their right to be angry stops the moment it crosses the line into physical harm to Americans. And at that point we'll remind them why God gave us JDAMs and special forces.
UPDATE: These ads are "the greatest marketing efforts since New Coke."
New Coke? Oh yeah. I still have fond memories of torching a Pepsi truck during the "Day of Caffeine-fueled Rage" that I participated in. We got the day off to vent our outrage, I believe.
