What So Proudly They Hail

I'm glad that the Obama administration is admitting that the Benghazi consulate attack was a deliberate act of terrorism. What I don't get is why for so long they thought it was better for the administration to claim it was a spontaneous act arising from a demonstration.

Apparently, perhaps hundreds of attackers with rocket propelled grenades and mortars do count as a terrorist assault:

The assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi last week in which four Americans died was a "terrorist attack" that may have had an al Qaeda connection, a top U.S. counterterrorism official told Congress on Wednesday.

Rocket-propelled grenades and mortars struck the consulate on September 11, the anniversary of the 2001 attacks on the United States. U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died.

But why stick to the idea that it was something that just grew out of a protest and got out of hand? Isn't nearly four years of President Obama not being George W. Bush good enough to repair relations with the Moslem world? Isn't over nearly 3-1/2 years of our outreach to the Moslem world after the president's Cairo speech enough to calm the Moslem world?

How can a crowd of peaceful Moslems spontaneously erupt into a deadly mob with basic infantry skills and the ability to conduct recon and indirect fire after all this nuanced presidential understanding whose very existence as president (as candidate Obama famously claimed) will soothe the nutballs?

We need to learn that when you reach your hand out to Islamist nutballs, take care they don't snap at it with bared teeth. The Obama campaign has chosen an unfortunate image for their campaign:

Most Moslems aren't nutballs. Stop acting like condemning the nutballs means we condemn all Moslems. The non-nutballs need our help to defeat the Islamist killers.

If we won't fight them, from our relative safety far from where the Islamists live, how can we expect the reasonable Moslems to fight the Islamists who live among them and who know where the reasonable Moslems live?

We are at war. Stop pretending it is just a misunderstanding that is really our fault.
