Leave talking to China to the diplomats. Mil-to-mil contacts with the PLA will only erase the mystery that might invoke fear and give the PLA the idea that they understand how to defeat us.
The bipartisan delegation [visiting China], which included three members of the House Armed Services Committee, called on the U.S. and China’s militaries to talk more regularly to avoid veering into conflict[.]
The longstanding delusion persists. Xi Jinping will only learn how to defeat the United States with these military-to-military contacts. Even if the PLA wrongly thinks it can defeat America, bad things happen.
Let the diplomats do the talking. That's actually their job, with adult supervision, of course. The military's job is to stand behind the diplomats grimly cleaning its firearms and sharpening its blades--not providing that level of transparency.
