America should not want Europe to unify through any means other than NATO on defense issues.
That's an interesting question:
If America Abandons Europe, Will the Continent Fragment or Unify?
That's a major "if". America is not abandoning Europe. Trump affirmed America's commitment to the alliance as its members pledged to increase defense spending. America has long worked to strengthen the European side of NATO. America has a good reason to keep Europe out of hostile hands.
Further, the "if" is practically an EU wet dream. The EU wants America to leave Europe in order to unify Europe under its rule.
America won't like Europe unified under the EU. Which is why letting Europeans unite through the EU rather than through NATO would be a major mistake for America to make.
As I advised the British, a unified Europe is bad. Even if we start out thinking it is good for America. And (back to the initial article) how can it be good with this kind of continental attitude?
Europe increasingly positions itself as a global power, balancing between the United States and China[.]
Balancing between a monstrous and aggressive China and an America that has fought to preserve their freedoms? Seriously?
Kill that monster before turns against us.
