The Year of the Wait, What?

Oh, now China is concerned about North Korea?

"China is extremely concerned by the way things are going. We oppose any behavior which may exacerbate the situation and any acts which are not beneficial towards the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

China had no problems with their little psycho pet issuing threats to turn Seoul into a sea of fire all these years and did nothing to halt North Korea's nuclear missiles programs.

But now it is worrisome.

I assume it is now worrisome because it is driving closer defense cooperation between America, Japan, and South Korea in the region.

And everyone in range of North Korea seems to want missile defenses and long-range strike assets to go after North Korean offensive weapons.

And the South Koreans and Japanese could conceivably go nuclear in response to North Korea.

And then why should Taiwan be the exception to the nuclear rule?

All of a sudden an aggressive North Korea that rattles the region isn't so funny in Peking. Hey, all that stuff could be used against China! By Jove, that's of great concern to us!

Yeah, this isn't working out quite as well as Peking hoped. How's that supposed Chinese deep, patient, long-range planning working out for them?

On the bright side, by the time the North Korean regime collapses, South Korea and Japan will have more capable militaries capable of disputing China's claim to be the sole guardian of the wreckage (and territory) of that criminal state.

Oh, that's not a bright side in Peking? Pity they didn't see that coming.
