And really, can you say our problems are worse than in the 1970s when MAD ruled our lives, the Soviet Union was apparently on a roll, our economy was faltering in the face of rising foreign competition, and all the smart guys and gals were talking about the "convergence" of our system with the Soviet system and only hoped to manage our decline gracefully? And when people spoke of the American century ending in 1975 (well short of 100 years), with the Soviet century just beginning?
Even tough problems can be solved. And all things considered, perhaps our problems aren't even in the "tough" league.
