Um, What About Hagel?

Peter Beinart supports Chuck Hagel's nomination to be Secretary of Defense. He gets too busy berating the purportedly farcical Republican opposition--even making a pointless slam against Mitt Romney--to actually say a word in Hagel's defense. (Tip to Real Clear Politics)

Which is no worse than Hagel himself, who was unable to offer a defense of his nomination. For someone who believes Hagel's nomination is the "most consequential foreign-policy appointment" of President Obama, as Beinart is on record as believing, that's rather an oversight, no?

Hagel would be an awful Secretary of Defense. And the left really does seem to want him out of spite. In this regard, Hagel is a mere weapon rather than a person.

Which is how the president views Hagel, too, for that matter.
