Give Them What They Want

Given that wealthy regions of the country voted for President Obama, I've decided that the Republican Party should give them what they want: higher taxes for the wealthy. Give the Democrats what they say they want and demonstrate that such taxes won't make a dent in our spending spree.

What the heck, why try to protect our economy by protecting the wealthy liberal elites from the policies they claim to want? the House of Representatives should send a bill across to the Senate that increases the marginal income tax rate in the highest tax bracket to 99% with an end to exemptions that liberal constituencies take advantage of, too. Tell the Senate they can reduce that rate to whatever they want and the House will concur.

Then have the Congressional Budget Office score the revenue and deficit based on that law. All will see that any tax level on the rich that the Senate can stomach will not affect the deficit in any meaningful way.

Then Republicans can then insist on actual spending cuts before another tax increase is even considered.

Stop saving the Democrats. They keep charging at the 1% yelling "Hold me back!" and counting on Republicans to do just that. Free the Democrats. Give them what they want on this issue and watch them howl in protest.

Just watching their liberal rich backers howl will be worth the price of admission. After all, don't they have more than enough money already?
