The Dubai Tower's final height is a closely guarded secret, but completion of the concrete, glass and steel structure is expected by the end of 2008. The building's relentless climb is one example of Dubai's stratospheric rise from a sleepy desert town on the Persian Gulf to one of the principal business centers in the Middle East.
And given that jihadi terrorists seem perfectly content to strike Moslem targets close at hand when they can't reach American or even Western targets, what makes the UAE think that this tower will be welcomed as a symbol of progress and achievement by such jihadis?
Were there structures this tall in the 8th century? No? Well, case closed. By building this Western-inspired skyscraper, and undertaking a "stratospheric rise from a sleepy desert town" to "one of the principal business centers in the Middle East," Dubai is just demonstrating that it has deviated tremendously from the true path of Islam, as defined by the jihadis.
All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if Canada's CN Tower reclaims the title of tallest free-standing structure.
