The United States on Tuesday recommitted itself to the defense of South Korea, including keeping Seoul under its nuclear umbrella, the two countries said in a joint statement.
But that assurance is easy now for even the meekest American president to give, since North Korea could be a few years from being able to threaten us:
North Korea's missiles could hit the United States in as few as three years if the reclusive rogue nation continues to ramp up its weapons system, Pentagon officials said Tuesday.
Once North Korea can threaten a US city with nuclear annihilation, I'm not sure our guarantee is good. Would an American president really risk Seattle to retaliate for the destruction of Seoul if the North Koreans announced they still had a dozen long-range nuclear missiles in reserve after nuking Seoul?
The prudent course for South Korea to take would be to seek nuclear weapons of their own.
China should take note of this probable result of their defense of North Korea.
