Sunday's vote pits factions backed by the United States and the West against a coalition led by the pro-Iranian and pro-Syrian Hezbollah and its ally, Christian leader Michel Aoun. Sunni Muslims overwhelmingly support the former, Shiites the latter — and Christians are divided between them.
The Christians who side with Hizbollah are displaying spectacular stupidity. It is stupidity so grand that when Hezbollah turns on the Christians and slaughters or drives them into exile, the West will shrug its shoulders and scold them that they are getting what they deserve.
And who can argue with that conclusion? From the Cedar Revolution to the Cedar coffins, all in less than 5 years. Truly, the Christians of Lebanon may prove too stupid to live.
