Italy is warning that it will review the use of its bases by coalition forces for strikes against Libya if the mission doesn't pass to NATO's command.
Foreign Minister Franco Frattini issued the ultimatum Monday after Turkey blocked NATO from approving a military strategy that would allow NATO's participation in the operation.
Interesting that the Italians had no problem with the operation under American command but object to following orders from the French. Being so much bigger than allies that nobody can object to our command is an advantage to being a superpower that nobody notices while we lead.
So Italy gets ready to exit, unless Turkey changes their mind or Italy does. The "whole world is behind us" image isn't what it used to be. Although it never was. I never cared much about that when we need to secure our national interests, but a lot of people claim it is important to have the sainted international community behind us.
And only two days into the war, no less.
UPDATE: A comparison of coalitions in Iraq 2003 and Libya 2011. Yet the narrative is that Libya is being undertaken by a broad international coalition while Iraq was a unilateral cowboy operation. I imagine the Left assumed there would be no math involved in this issue.
