China could strike our Navy in our ports in Pearl Harbor and on the West Coast. And I don't know why China's reach to the continental United States (CONUS) is limited to the West Coast. Complacency could be deadly.
China could attack Pearl Harbor and the West Coast:
While much of the U.S. fleet would presumably be at sea at the start of the war, significant portions would still be at Pearl Harbor and bases on the West Coast. China’s priority would be to target forward-deployed forces, but it would also be prudent for them to eliminate as many potential reinforcements as possible.
I hope we have our western Pacific fleet at sea before China strikes. I seriously wish we didn't home port capital ships or too many warplanes in the western Pacific. My biggest concern is a theater-wide "Pearl Harbor" targeting our forward deployed forces before our forces can sail or disperse.
My worry about a Pearl Harbor isn't solely about new, expensive high-tech weapons. Although at least this attack option seems to be more widely appreciated today. The situation got worse (second link). And yeah, whack-in-a-box (third link) could be the means. So I assume nothing. "Remember Pearl Harbor" should not be a historical reference. It should be a reminder to do everything we can, every day, to prevent a repeat anywhere.
