Ukraine on Friday urged schools to close and factories to cut production after Russia refused to restart natural gas deliveries, while residents shivered as the country strained to save on gas supplies.
As I noted in a recent data dump:
America is selling coal to Ukraine. Which helps Ukraine reduce reliance on Russian energy and helps Ukraine keep American good will. When Ukraine can survive a winter without Russian energy, would we finally see a Ukrainian counterattack into the Donbas?
As long as Russia is waging an economic war on Ukraine, I like to think that Ukraine is preparing to eventually launch a major attack to liberate the Donbas in one fast campaign to present Russia with the choice of escalating to open warfare to reconquer the Donbas or accepting the result of "only" taking Crimea in their war with Ukraine.
And on economic warfare, I still think Ukraine should bill Russia for rent for squatting on the entire Crimean peninsula. By the time lawyers are done with Russia, Ukraine would own Rostov.
