President Vladimir Putin unveiled an array of new nuclear weapons on Thursday, in one of his most bellicose speeches in years, saying they could hit almost any point in the world and evade a U.S.-built missile shield.
Putin was speaking ahead of an election on March 18 that polls indicate he should win easily. He said a nuclear attack on any of Moscow's allies would be regarded as an attack on Russia itself and draw an immediate response.
One, just who is threatening a nuclear strike on one of Russia's allies? (And how many allies doe Russia actually have?)
But more importantly, if Russia has nukes that can evade American anti-missile defenses, will he stop whining about America's missile defenses that can't handle an attack the size that Russia could launch even before the new weapons (if they really exist as an "array")?
Really, Russia should encourage America to spend money on missile defenses if they are truly ineffective against Russia's new array of nuclear weapons.
