Statistics, Tragedies, Outrage, Whatever

I certainly hope the Iraqi government looks into prisoner abuse charges.

But what am I to make of this?

"In light of the apparently systemic nature and magnitude of that problem, and the importance of public confidence in any inquiry, I urge authorities to consider calling for an international inquiry," said Louise Arbour, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights.

So there are 174 suspected victims and the UN commission is upset over the systemic nature and magnitude of the problem.

The UN commission that puts human rights violators on its panel.

Which is a commission of a body that never seemed to work up outrage over Saddam's role in killing several hundred thousand Iraqis, torturing routinely, and terrorizing his people.

The international body whose general secretary said he could do business with Saddam and whose corruption supplied Saddam with the money to maintain his regime and continue the reign of terror a little longer.

And now the commission is focused on abuses in Iraq. Because only now do they think the alleged abuse is systemic and the magnitude is sufficiently large to warrant attention.

I suggest the Iraqi government tell the Sunnis who still slaughter Iraqis that they need to take a number and wait. I believe the Iraqi government will get to number 300,174 in around the year 2056.

Now the UN high commissioner on human rights focuses on Iraq. How nice.

I'm going to hope the human rights commission has its offices on one of the top ten floors of the UN.
