A Complete Failure to Govern

The Obama administration is claiming that the Benghazi consulate didn't have proper security because Congress cut appropriations for embassy security.

This is a change from administration claims that security was adequate and then that they didn't know that the consulate needed more security.

And it blames Republicans for a decision by a Congress co-controlled with the Democratic party.

But aside from those quibbles with the Obama administration's view of reality, are they saying that even with a less money than they requested for security that the Obama administration couldn't find another place to cut security rather than at the tip of the figurative spear in Benghazi? I mean, somehow they've promised that our national defense will be fine even though we will spend less money than the Department of Defense wants, right?

Perhaps the security detail in Paris could have spared some Marines, hmm?

That's the problem. Without unlimited money so they don't have to make any choices that we pay our leaders to make, they are unable to prioritize. Once we could afford that. Now we can't. Governing is about making choices about using limited resources.

And on diplomatic security in our global network of embassies and consulates, our government decided that Benghazi's security was adequate and there was no need to take resources from other, safer locations.

And worse, rather than accept that they screwed up and four Americans died, the Obama administration makes excuses about how they didn't do anything wrong.

Mind you, I'm not blaming the Obama administration for what our jihadi enemies do to us. Our enemies are murderous bastards and that's what murderous, uncivilized bastards do.

I blame the administration for thinking that being the anti-Bush could make the Islamists love us.

I blame the administration for thinking that we can responsibly end this war on terror and come home safely.

I blame the administration for not even really believing we are in a war that we must win.

Mistakes and defeats happen in a war against a vicious enemy that wants to kill us. But I expect our leaders to try to defeat those enemies.
