America is a maritime power. But when threats arise in the vast Eurasia where much of the world's war making potential lies, control of the seas must be for the purpose of projecting ground and air power to support allies overseas to defeat our common enemy.
The U.S. needs to rebuild its Navy:
It is urgent that the Trump Administration build up the Navy. It will take dramatic strengthening of the defense industrial base, especially the shipbuilding industry. It will require a massive increase in employment in Defense industry especially in the trades which is something that is long overdue.
We once churned out ships like sausages. Now? Um. But we can do better, right? Oh.
No doubt sea control is job one. The Army doesn't want to be abandoned on a far shore. The same can be said for the Marines, of course, these days.
But sea control needs to enable land control to be meaningful in the long run--even in INDOPACOM--because the vast majority of hard power potential lies in Eurasia. We can't remain free for long if we retreat to North America.
