Island Hopping

Marines practiced amphibious assault on Saudi islands. That might be a useful skill to hone.

That's useful:
The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and the Navy's Bataan Amphibious Ready Group conducted the exercises on Karan and Kurayn Islands between Apr. 20 and 22, 2020.  For its present deployment, the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group includes the Wasp class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan, the San Antonio class landing platform dock USS New York, and the Harpers Ferry class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill. It is also receiving support from the Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS Stout.

Even as the Marine Corps is shifting from emphasizing large-scale amphibious operations to direct support for the fleet, I've long felt the Persian Gulf was a place where a few good Marines could have a strategic effect. Occupying the places where Iran could base drones, small boats, or missiles, is of great help to the Navy.

As that initial article notes:

There would certainly be a desire to seize or otherwise neutralize the various Iranian island outposts in the Persian Gulf, which it has used to launch attacks and harassment operations in the past.

Indeed there would be. And a few will do.
