The Army's Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) vehicle is coming. Burn, baby burn.
After MPF crews have established logistics and strategic practices the platform will attach with US Army Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (IBCTs), where they will train together to establish a new battlefield role.
Ah yes, the light tank with a 105mm main gun. And hardly any armor. Which is designed to fight opponents who don't send tanks against those infantry brigades.
Thank God we have enemies cooperative enough to refrain from using main battle tanks against our MPF-supported infantry. Who says Chivalry is dead?
And for God's sake, don't even pretend that the long-gone M-551 Sheridan light tank that used to support airborne units wasn't garbage.
Oh! But you say the MPF can be airlifted! Dream on, crunchies. My advice to airborne infantry is to load up on Javelins--if the Air Force will load them after making time in their busy schedule for your light tanks.
The infantry needs support. As I argued in Army magazine, give them Abrams tanks. Even older models would be better than this Future Burned Out Hulk (FBOH).
