America should never support a stronger European Union in the mistaken belief that powerful EU will be an ally of America
The idea that America should want a better armed (and more politically unified) European Union is so fucking stupid that I am nearly speechless. Nearly. Russia's invasion of Ukraine is just the latest excuse for the means to help the EU take political power from member states.
The EU doesn't want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with America. The EU wants to replace NATO in order to eject America from Europe. Europeans should rearm--within NATO. America should never support the drive of largely anti-American Euro elites to strip the prefix from the proto-imperial EU.
Even as we complain that Europe doesn't arm up enough to defend itself, remember that it is in America's interest to defend Europe to keep it from being a threat to America:
The United States, which is both rich and strong, has to defend Europe because the wealth, technology and knowledge of Europe in the hands of other states might imperil the United States.
Truly, we might want to be careful what we wish for on the European rearmament issue, as Friedman notes: "Armament and disarmament are both troubling."
Don't let the Euro elites ride from crisis to crisis to an imperial state.
Hell, a common resistance to a dangerous EU empire could heal U.S.-Russian relations.
And an EU state isn't just a long-term threat to American security. Do Europeans really want to throw away their freedom and democracy nurtured under American protection after World War II to become subjects under imperial rulers? Will the imperial dreams of past European rulers be realized under the constraints of ten thousand cheese regulations?
