What is Germany's Major Malfunction?

Germany is either a free democracy in the West or it isn't. The Germans need to make an effing choice.

Russia is threatening to invade a founding member of the United Nations. Again. Which is a pattern of invasions and threats to others that Russia deems "belong" to Russia. This outrages me:

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Friday defended her country's decision not to send weapons to Ukraine to fend off a possible Russian invasion, saying its World War Two past meant it had a duty to seek other ways to secure peace.

The Russians justify their aggression in the west based on two German invasions of Russia in the 20th century. Notwithstanding the tiny and ill-prepared military that modern Germany has. Do the Germans really think that gestures like this self-proclaimed "duty" will earn them any favor from Russia if the Russians move west seriously?

During the Cold War, I read a joke about Soviet exercises to attack NATO. One Soviet officer kept suggesting attack plans that would focus on German troops. His superior kept pushing him to hit the Americans. The subordinate officer finally expressed his frustration about why every idea he put forth about hitting German lines was shot down! The superior looked at the subordinate and explained, "Business before pleasure, comrade!"

I'm not really digressing. This time.

Russia will enjoy destroying everything in Germany and salting the earth if given the chance. The Germans are deluded to think there are "other ways" to secure peace from the Russian threat without having the military power to make sure Russia knows military threats won't work.

Let me again take out the clue bat and hope it knocks some sense into these NATO morons:

I keep reading that the Germans hate their militaristic past so much that they don't want to fight.

Let's try applying the clue bat to Germany's collective skull on this issue.

Conquering and setting up death camps under the shield of a powerful military? That's bad. By all means, don't do that.

Having a military capable of fighting death cult enemies or stopping the Russians from moving west? Well, that's a good thing. Try doing that.

And at this time nobody is even asking Germany to fight or even to arm up itself. Just help arm a potential victim of aggression!

And Germany can't do that?!

Oh, and let's see what Germany is willing to do:

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Saturday that “now is the moment of truth” to determine whether Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with world powers can be salvaged, and the Iranian leadership needs to make a choice.

Got it. No conventional weapons for Ukraine to defend itself. But help Jew-hating, mullah-run Iran get nuclear weapons. Way to make up for Germany's "World War II past."

If the Germans can't help Ukraine now because of Germany's past, maybe the Russians are right about the German threat. Maybe Putin can reach an agreement with America that spares Ukraine and goes to the heart of the European problem, as the Germans claim:

Seriously, is German unwillingness to pay for common defense in line with their economic status so strong that the Germans are willing to argue that they are barely suppressed Nazis at heart despite 70+ years of being part of the West with freedom and democracy?

If the Germans say they aren't to be trusted with sharp knives and actually believe it is true, maybe NATO and Russia should just pull back a safe distance and nuke the place just to be sure.
Germany's World War II past means it must not conquer others--not refuse to help victims of new conquerors.

I don't understand Germany's major malfunction. Do they actually believe this crap they shovel?

I hate complaining about the Germans. I really do. They stood with us during the Cold War. They became a democracy. They are our ally. But could they please act like an ally eager to protect the free West they apparently joined too recently to really feel part of?

UPDATE: To Germany's credit, in response to Russia's move into territory controlled by its Donbas sock puppets, Germany killed the Nordstream II pipeline from Russia that bypasses Ukraine.

UPDATE: Other Western sanctions are following.

UPDATE: Russia has attacked Ukraine. "Other ways" to secure peace won't cut it.

Will Germany help Ukraine resist conquest that German membership in NATO prevented?

Will Germany rebuild its military power to resist aggressive regimes like Putin's Russia?

UPDATE: Germany decided to send anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons to Ukraine. That's a major shift in recognizing reality. This is welcome.

Will Germany decide it also needs to spend more and build a larger military?

Are two divisions and a few other brigades really enough to defend Germany in light of Putin's decision to launch a war in Europe?

Heck, maybe the sight of Putin seeing Nazis in Ukraine has been a wake up call in Berlin that no level of German weakness is enough to appease Russia.
