America under Trump sucks up to tyrants and Germany is somehow at risk? When Germany is cutting economic energy deals with Putin that harm Western European security?
And the change from (West) Germany being a favorite American ally in the Cold War to Germany being considered a free-rider on our defense effort is somehow Trump's fault?
If this isn't insane enough, the author says the answer for Germany "abandoned" by America--which is oddly rearming in Europe to face Russia--is for Germany to get nuclear weapons of their own?
While the author dances around the subject quite a bit, the bottom line as the article heading shows, is incredible:

Germany, which can't put a sub to sea or put planes in the air or even train their tiny army without emptying out the janitor's closet for brooms, says this state of affairs is all they can manage given the small threat they apparently perceive.
And what excuse do I hear constantly for why Germany won't spend more on defense? Because of Germany's Nazi history the Germans say they can't really be trusted with a tiny army, air force, or navy that can actually fight.
But the author says that despite Germany's record on post-Cold War defense that Germany should invest the money be a nuclear power.
The funny thing is, if Germany did build an arsenal of 100 nuclear missiles, in a decade there would be articles about how only 2 of Germany's missiles were capable of being fired.
Maybe it lost something in translation. But if it is even close, I'm sorry, but that guy--supposedly one of Germany's most renowned political scientists--is an idiot.
