Russia’s Ministry of Defense is accusing the U.S. of being the last big hurdle in the way of destroying the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) in Syria, after repeatedly alleging Washington is shielding the group it claims to be fighting.
The Russians lie with such casual ease that I wonder if they are capable of telling the truth.
America has taken the lead in fighting ISIL while Assad and his allies went primarily after other rebels. Indeed, Assad encouraged the jihadis to weaken the opposition by making his strongest enemies seem worse than him.
Now Russia is leaping into the end game in eastern Syria to exploit the victories we've helped Kurds and Arabs achieve.
