An Exquisite Bitch

Jihadis are going to Syria to fight Assad's regime. Is there more of a win-win than this out there right now?

It would be bad if the jihadis take power, but right now two enemies are killing each other:

Assem Abdel Maged, a leader of the Egyptian extremist group Gamaa Islamiya, has issued a statement in Egyptian newspapers today, September 1, asserting that three of the group’s members, or, as he described them, “martyrs,” had been killed while helping the rebel forces in Syria.

Sure, the article says there is a risk that battle hardened jihadis will return to their homes to sow chaos. But darned few returned home from Iraq. That was the place the Sunni Arab world sent their jihadis to die so the governments didn't have to deal with them.

As a bonus bit of payback, recall that before and during the Iraq War, Syria was the final stage of the worldwide jihadi recruiting effort that sent young jihadi wannabes to Iraq. First as Saddam's Fedayeen who put down Shias and suicidally fought our invasion; and second as suicide bombers for the terrorism campaign that challenged our counter-insurgency campaign.

And now the pieces of that recruiting network designed to get jihadis to Syria in order to send them to Iraq can still send jihadis to Syria--where they stay to fight, kill, and die.

I'm just not crying over this development. May more of our enemies die fighting each other. It's a bit of payback, no?
