Mister and I went to see the Red Wings play Nashville yesterday afternoon. The place was rocking and it was surely a good game. Nashville is good this year despite the lack of any hockey tradition at all to call on. But we lost 3-2. I thought we played well except for the early part when we gave up a power play goal. The hockey gods were not smiling on us, despite nearly a 2:1 shots on goal advantage in the game.
And the barely-too-late goal as the second period ended hurt. When we put the puck in the net, I immediately looked to the clock to see it at zero--but when hundredths of seconds matter, that said nothing. But I wasn't shocked when the review said it was after the period ended. It would have been a different game had that play started half a second earlier. But it didn't. No goal.
Oh well. Mister was crushed at the loss. He is of that age. He at least agreed it was better to see even a loss in person. I explained that even in a loss it was a lot of fun to share a game with him.
We had pretty good seats behind the Detroit net in the lower part of the upper bowl. I like watching the game from that angle more than side-to-side. It is much easier to see the attack and defense in action from that angle.
At least we made it out of the Joe Louis parking structure pretty fast since our seats were by our entry point and we beat the crowd back to our cars. So we had that going for us.
And Lamb liked the light up wand that was given out. I gave her mine. Mister was hoping for a towel but I guess we already have enough playoff towels to last a while!
I'm sure I'll add some photos when I feel like uploading them.
I'm sure I'll feel like it sooner if we tie the series up tomorrow. Hopefully we can dig deep for inspired play from our long hockey history.
UPDATE: Here are Mister and I in our seats before the game:
The red lights did look pretty cool:
It was a good game. We're glad we went anyway.
