I earlier remarked about my shock that US wounded-in-action statistics showed so few casualties in December.
I checked back and the December 2007 WIA stands at 207. Clearly, there is a lag in reporting this category that there isn't for KIA. Which makes sense. The Department of Defense releases KIA press releases for each of those casualties. I assumed Iraq Casualty Count was reporting WIA with another source of information.
So the killed-to-wounded ratio is what one would expect and not an indicator of dramatically lower combat intensity. There was a reason I was shocked by the number as it stood at the end of December. I stand corrected.
