Human Rights Watch said police had been randomly arresting and beating up Zimbabweans they accuse of supporting the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) since its leader Morgan Tsvangirai was detained and beaten in March.
"Arbitrary arrests, detentions and brutal beatings by police and security forces skyrocketed in March and April and continue unabated," Georgette Gagnon, deputy African director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.
What wimps! Everyone knows that real repression takes place right here in the Bushtatorship! Why, our vice president can shoot people with impunity! Our government might even see what you checked out at the library! They haven't--yet. But they will. Oh yes, they will.
Our Resident may have cleverly refrained from declaring martial law and executing Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi rather than let them take control of Congress in January, but surely this is just to lull true patriots into letting down their guard!
Detained and beaten? Hah! They have it good there in Zimbabwe. Oppressed, indeed.
