Compromise

Iran's foreign minister says Iran will make a counter-offer to our proposal for aid in exchange for ending Iran's nuclear program:

Manouchehr Mottaki would not give any timing for Iran's response. The Tehran regime previously has said some parts of the package were acceptable while others needed to be changed, and the central issue of uranium enrichment needed clarification.

Excuse me if I'm not encouraged.

Iran is pretty clear that they want nuclear capabilities. And they aren't worried about our military response as long as the Euros have influence.

And though the Iranians are certainly willing to talk to buy time, I hope nobody thinks that Iran will actually do anything to halt their nuclear program.

From Iran's point of view, the West wants to give Iran money under the belief that Iran will halt nuclear programs. Iran wants nukes and money.

For Iran, I'm sure that a compromise that provides Iran with Western money, does nothing to halt real progress toward Iranian nukes, and still lets the West believe Iran has halted nuclear work counts as a compromise.

Sadly enough, a lot over here agree.
