Probe

Even if the Canadian pilot who was escorted though our air space by our F-16s isn't deliberatley probing our northern exposure, he effectively probed our defenses and the jihadis can take note of lessons learned:

A man suspected of stealing a plane in Canada and flying erratically across three states was trying to commit suicide, hoping he would be shot down by military fighter planes, a state trooper said Tuesday.

And what if we'd shot the plane down? Would the news of the man's supposed suicidal intent work to tighten our rules of engagement enough to let a real terrorist threat through? Or would it have caused enough guilt in the pilot to effectively discourage pilots in future encounters from pulling the trigger in time?

The man is depressed? Give him more to be depressed about--lock him up for a long time.

Maybe next time the jerk will just overdose, leave a note, and spare us the grief.
