The Army is going to reexamine the Future Combat Systems' manned ground vehicles (including the Paladin M-109 replacement) after their proposed cancellation by Secretary Gates.
We need replacements for our aging armor at some point. Abrams, Bradley, and Paladin are old. I'm skeptical that the Army can revamp the FCS program in 1 to 4 weeks.
But as I've droned on for years about, even when many others saw gee whiz gadgets turning featherweight armored cars into Abrams equivalents, I don't believe passive armor is obsolete. And Gates won't let the Army operate on that assumption any more.
