Getting Closer

So Iran will go nuclear in 6 months? I think we will be surprised when Iran goes nuclear notwithstanding these estimates that keep floating up.

Israel says Iran will go nuclear next year:

Iran is on course to develop a nuclear bomb within six months and time has run out for further negotiations, a senior Israeli minister said.

Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz said Iran still believed it had room for maneuver in dealing with world powers, and that unless it faced a credible threat of U.S. military action, it would not stop its nuclear activities.

After over a decade of blogging, I've given up worrying about exactly when Iran will go nuclear. Intelligence agencies keep coming up with estimates for how long Iran will take to go nuclear and they've been wrong every time.

The only things I'm certain about are that the mullah regime will go nuclear if we don't stop the regime or the program; and that we will be surprised when they go nuclear.

Remember, Iran can probably tell what indicators are being examined to give these estimates. We've seen the Iranians draw down their stockpiles of partially enriched Uranium, for example, to put off the day when Iran has enough nuclear material to build a bomb. Surely the Iranians can mess with other indicators even as they get closer to nuclear weapons in order to appear farther than they really are.
