Lions Led By Donkeys

I suppose we should be grateful that Secretary of Defense Hagel has been relatively quiet in the Syria debate. But even without his contributions, our military has a hard job backing up our inept diplomacy.

Attacking Syria is supposed to be a punishment for past use of chemical weapons and to deter future use. So, are you freaking kidding me?

[In] a joint press conference in London with Britain’s foreign secretary, ... [Secretary of State] Kerry said the strike would be able to harm Assad without putting American troops on the ground and with a “very limited, very targeted, short-term effort.”

“That is exactly what we are talking about doing, unbelievably small, limited kind of effort,” Kerry said.

Is Kerry on our side?

As I've long said, use of force isn't counter-productive--ineffective use of force is counter-productive.

Let's not get confused with notions that the administration couldn't possibly be this inept and that they are operating on a deep plan to put America in our proper place. This administration really does just suck this badly. Yet they probably still think they practice "smart" diplomacy.

I'm not ashamed to say that I am weeping for my country and our splendid military which has to provide the steel to back up this mush.
