A Convenient Enemy

It's them--not us.

If it was really other countries' policies that caused Islamist rage at us rather than the disfunctional religious views of the Islamists, Russia would have more problems with jihadis already:

Despite all the publicity about increased defense spending, there is much less talk on how to solve the growing problem with Islamic terrorism. ... Russians tend to be hostile to Islam, mainly because of centuries of conflict between Christian Russia and various Moslem states. This has created a culture of resentment among Russian Moslems, which is made worse by the pervasive corruption.

As the biggest country in the world, we're a convenient excuse for their own failings.

We don't need to change what we do; they need to change what they do. And we must insist on this way of acting.
