Hope, Change--and Surprise

Secretary Napolitano says she is surprised by the determination of al Qaeda to keep trying to kill us.

No doubt. Who'd have thought that President Obama's outreach to the Moslem world wouldn't have completely erased the hatred al Qaeda has for us. Have they not heard the president's Cairo speech? Are they unaware that we have a president whose middle name is "Hussein" and who clearly understands the troubles of the Islamic world from his youthful days in Indonesia? Have they not heard we will close Guantanamo Bay detention facilities?

When Napolitano took the job of secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, she surely figured "homeland defense" would soon become an obsolete task as we ceased our evil ways under the Bush/Cheney regime that just recruited jihadis. Are the jihadis unaware that George W. Bush left Washington nearly a year ago?!! I know that communications may not be that good to reach every cave in every backwater refuge quickly, but surely the word has gotten out, hasn't it?

Are these jihadi idiots completely immune to the soothing balms of hope and change?

Really, who can blame Napolitano for being surprised?

UPDATE: On the bright side, if we are to lose the talents of the current DHS secretary, I think we have an equally insightful candidate.
