The Navy wants to sure it can flail around at sea for as long as it is ordered to flail around at sea in inconclusive combat operations.
I think the Navy is missing the freaking point:
The short-notice surge of U.S. warships from the East Coast to take on missile and drone threats in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea is informing a model for how the Navy will surge ships to fight in future conflicts, the commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command told a group of naval engineers on Tuesday.
The Navy is missing the forest ends by focusing on the tree means! Really? The big lesson is how to surge forces for a lengthy naval operation? The focus is on the middle management level of war that sends sailors off to fight and die with every widget issued and every training box on their personnel files checked?
You don't want to focus on how to actually win the campaign to secure sea lines of communication against a third-rate bunch of hopped-up jihadis backed by Iran?
Seriously? Because maybe--now stay with me here as I wildly speculate--maybe we'll face a much tougher opponent at sea somewhere on the far side of the Pacific.
And today's Navy is in a "bad way." FFS, there was a pants shortage on their watch!
At least one day with this focus the Navy will be able to boast about a technically proficient retreat just like the Air Force could be cited for its end-game role in Afghanistan!
I'm really not happy with Navy leadership.
