Biden wants you to think his Afghanistan debacle is actually brilliance. Don't fall for it. The technical proficiency of the military evacuation is
separate from the idiocy of the administration strategy.
The Biden administration is trying to make you neglect its strategic ineptitude in Afghanistan by trying to hitch their disastrous strategy to the highly proficient military evacuation operation at the Kabul airport:
President Biden declared the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan a success in a defiant speech on Tuesday, even as hundreds of Americans were left behind in the country after the last U.S. troops flew out of the Kabul airport.
“The bottom line: 90 percent of Americans in Afghanistan who wanted to leave were able to leave,” Biden said. “For those remaining Americans, there is no deadline. We remain committed to get them out if they want to come out.”
Defiant? Not against the Taliban. Against reality, is more like it. As I wrote over the weekend:
Why yes, boast about how fast and vast your humiliating retreat from Afghanistan is.
I'd be comforted if this administration was brazenly lying to avoid accountability. But I fear they are actually inept enough to believe this crap.
Without the Biden administration ineptitude on deciding to leave--or even without their backassward plan on how to leave--there would have been no need for a high-risk military evacuation mission in landlocked Afghanistan surrounded by Taliban and other jihadis. Under a deadline enforced by the Taliban and emphasized by an ISIS-K suicide bombing at the perimeter of the Kabul airport.
While 90% might be good enough for an A- in an Ivy League political science test, in the real world that means 10% of those Americans who wanted to leave Afghanistan were left behind. How many is that? Perhaps six hundred? How many of them will become hostages to various jihadi groups?
Plus those Americans who for whatever reason chose to stay. Which might be fatal, too.
And very nice of the president to say there is "no deadline" for accepting American citizens back into America who manage to escape in the future. Mighty nuanced of the president. Don't get too close to America-first nativism, eh?
Don't let Biden hide his policy ineptitude behind the technically proficient military evacuation that prevented this defeat from being a mass slaughter of Americans. He counts on you accepting the needless defeat he engineered. Hell, he wants you to celebrate this disaster.
Nobody in America will be celebrating Victory in Afghanistan Day (VA Day) on future August 30ths.
At least the president didn't finish his "defiant" speech by crying out, "Now I'm going to Disneyland!"
UPDATE: Somebody didn't see the president's defiant victory speech:
“After 20 years we have defeated the Americans,” said Mohammad Islam, a Taliban guard at the airport from Logar province, cradling a Kalashnikov rifle. “They have left and now our country is free.”
“It’s clear what we want. We want Shariah (Islamic law), peace and stability,” he added.
They won? That dog-faced pony soldier! Like he even attended an Ivy League college!
And even those you'd expect to have a bit more nuance seem ignorant of Biden's stunning intellect:
The stunning meltdown of the U.S.’s Afghan client state marked the limits of American hard power. The dramatic scenes of despair in Kabul have frustrated and angered many American allies, particularly in Europe, inflicting considerable reputational damage.
And here we are. With an addled meat sack pretending he is our leader and a media pretending he is lucid.
UPDATE: Yes:
As President Joe Biden's propagandists wage a rearguard political war of lies and narrative distortion, al-Qaida has begun exploiting his administration's on-the-ground Afghanistan disaster.
Have a super sparkly day.
