I'm Sorry, Who's President?

The United Nations Security Council failed to authorize a resolution putting Assad on notice that the world community does not approve of his killing campaign to maintain power. We aren't happy:

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called Sunday for "friends of democratic Syria" to unite and rally against President Bashar Assad's regime, previewing the possible formation of a formal group of likeminded nations to coordinate assistance to the Syrian opposition.

So let me get this straight. We can't get the sainted international community to protect Syria's people. So we call for a coalition group of the willing likeminded nations to help the Syrian people outside of the UN.

Got it.

This is way different from how the Bush administration acted in defiance of the United Nations.

Oh, and as Secretary Clinton lets the Syrian opposition know that America would like to see Assad driven from power, remember what happened in 1991 after Iraq's Shias heard similar words and assumed we would help them drive Saddam from power. What will we do with our group of likeminded nations if the Syrian opposition escalates and the government responds with escalated attacks?
