When Evil Stumbles

It frustrates me that the Iranian bombing plot has been dismissed by some because it seems so amateurish:

Almost a month after law enforcement officials announced they had foiled a plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States and bomb the Saudi and Israeli embassies in the American capital, there’s still some doubt in many U.S. policy circles that the Iranians could’ve been involved. According to a number of Iran experts and analysts, the details suggest a recklessness and incompetence that is at odds with the Tehran regime’s standard method.

This is nonsense, as the article argues.

Let me add that this argument for innocence offends me on two levels, since it is the basis for refusing to treat this as an act of war. It rests on the assumption that Iran is so proficient at terrorism that it is inconceivable that they could screw it up.

One, even a good outfit can screw up. Do you really want to rest a defense of Iran on their inability to screw up?

And two, are you really arguing that Iran shouldn't be punished for this terrorist plot arguing that Iran couldn't be behind it because Iran is usually so good at it? Really?

Look, we got lucky. They screwed up. Next time they might use their A team. Or just get lucky.

They are at war with us. Return the favor.
