When National Security is Personal

I've mentioned that India has a very land-centric view of their defense environment. They can be excused for that, however, when road building in their own country has a national defense angle, as India's defense minister indicates:

"We have been improving our infrastructure and military capabilities in the eastern sector. We are strengthening our military capability and infrastructure not for confrontation, but to protect our territory and also to build an effective deterrence...so that we can protect every inch of Indian territory," Antony said.

A couple mountain infantry divisions, new aircraft, more artillery and tanks. Plus military bases and even roads. I think Strategypage has reported that the Chinese can move troops twice as fast on their side of the border because of better transportation networks.
