The Bush administration plans to announce next week that U.S. soldiers' combat tours will be reduced from 15 months to 12 months in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning later this summer, the Associated Press has learned.
This isn't a shock. See the numbers here with my back-of-the-envelope calculations. Indeed, with new brigades and reduced troop deployments, I think we are close to being able to go to 2:1 ratios of home-to-deployed time.
