And Then the Deluge

I do not believe Western Europe will continue its slow motion suicide in the face of radical Islam within its borders. For now, the pacifist European mindset that seeks to ignore the threat is in control, but the extended August vacation that Europe is taking will soon come to an end. Indeed, it may be wrapping up even now:

FR D RIC ENCEL, PROFESSOR OF international relations at the prestigious Ecole Nationale d'Administration in Paris and a man not known for crying wolf, recently stated that France is becoming a new Lebanon. The implication, far-fetched though it may seem, was that civil upheaval might be no more than a few years off, sparked by growing ethnic and religious polarization. In recent weeks, a series of events has underlined this ominous trend.

On March 8, tens of thousands of high school students marched through central Paris to protest education reforms announced by the government. Repeatedly, peaceful demonstrators were attacked by bands of black and Arab youths--about 1,000 in all, according to police estimates. The eyewitness accounts of victims, teachers, and most interestingly the attackers themselves gathered by the left-wing daily Le Monde confirm the motivation: racism.

Some of the attackers openly expressed their hatred of "little French people." One 18-year-old named Heikel, a dual citizen of France and Tunisia, was proud of his actions. He explained that he had joined in just to "beat people up," especially "little Frenchmen who look like victims." He added with a satisfied smile that he had "a pleasant memory" of repeatedly kicking a student, already defenseless on the ground.

Another attacker explained the violence by saying that "little whites" don't know how to fight and "are afraid because they are cowards." Rachid, an Arab attacker, added that even an Arab can be considered a "little white" if he "has a French mindset." The general sentiment was a desire to "take revenge on whites.

This is part of the reason I worry about a united Europe. Eventually, since the left won't defend its own culture against assault, a non-democratic party will rise to defend France and then the jackboots will rattle the windows as they march by again. It will be bad enough in one country and I'd rather the whole continent not drift to totalitarianism as it finally rouses itself to defend itself.

And Europe is capable of great brutality when it fights. Do not be fooled by the last 60 years of peace. This is a violent continent filled with nations that have left bloody footprints across the globe. Even the "French mindset" that one attacker derided cut a swath across Europe and likely colonized his sorry land at one time. He and his ilk mistake foolish patience for their minority status with lack of power. The power is there only lacking the will to use it. So when Europe rouses itself in desperation, it will fight with desperation.

I would prefer Europe to rouse itself now while it will use democratic means to cure their problem. I would rather they not allow themselves to be pushed again and again until they snap and annihilate their Moslem residents. But the ruling class is resisting any action at all and I fear that this refusal to face their problem has made a peaceful solution too late already.

And after their Moslem problem is "solved," we will again have a Europe problem.
