The British people have been given a chance to vote to leave or remain in the EU. And whether or not the EU and their local Europhile elites will act on that declaration if the vote is to leave, the British should make a clear statement against control by the continent, which the British have resisted successfully by arms time and time again.
Forget that talk of "reforming" the EU from within. Would the British people have been able to reform from within Napoleon's empire? The Kaiser's empire? The Thousand-Year Reich? The Soviet empire?
If the British need an example of what to say when they leave the European union, I suggest this document, which could be amended for today and made to end thusly:
We, therefore, the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, voting in a referendum, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Islands, solemnly publish and declare, That this United Kingdom, and of Right ought to be a Free and Independent State; that we are Absolved from all Allegiance to the European Union, and that all political connection between Brussels and Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as a Free and Independent State, have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
For your sake, Britain, fight them on the ballots!
And I would like to remind that British that the special relationship between America and Britain was born because of separation; and that America did just fine as an independent state able to do all the things that independent states may do.
So ignore all the talk of how leaving the EU will doom your economy and national security. If the continentals punish you for standing on your own against the powers in Europe rather than deal with you as a sovereign state for the benefit of you and Europe, what makes you think that the Brussels bureaucrats will treat you nicely when you are securely subjugated to them?
This vote could yet be your finest hour.
