The Light at the End of the Tunnel Fools Us Again

The Syrian multi-war is hardly over in Syria when rebels are still besieging an Assad base close to Damascus:

The Syrian army backed by Russian jets escalated bombing of the last rebel bastion on the eastern outskirts of Damascus as they prepared to break a siege of an army base encircled by opposition forces, residents and witnesses said on Wednesday.

The war is dragging into its 6th year of fighting, and 7th if you count initial unrest. It is equally bad that the rebels (terrorists in this case) are unable to overrun the small outpost after all this time. It speaks to the inability of each side to mass much offensive power as opposed to having lots of mostly static local defense forces.

Assad, Iran, Hezbollah, and Russia want everyone to think the war is over and that Assad won.

The situation on the ground shows that is simply not true.
