America is pivoting to the "real" threat in Asia that must simultaneously not require too much sacrifice from our people to confront. I'm getting nauseous.
With so much focus on fully pivoting to the Pacific to prepare for a war over Taiwan against China, I cautioned that the urge to pivot to the "real threat" at the expense of the ongoing Russian threat will be repeated without end:
I've long noted that the Left has a history of opposing the current threat we are resisting in order to focus like a laser beam on the "next" vitally important threat. Obviously, when the current threat defeats us, that "next" threat becomes the current threat. Lather, rinse, repeat. The "bad war" versus "good war" dance of two decades ago is the most obvious example of this process.
The right has adopted this "we need to focus on the real threat" approach to advocate a pivot to Asia in order to abandon Europe and/or the Middle East to their fates. It'll be fine, they say.
So ... Behold:
Letting Taiwan fall to Beijing would dent Washington’s credibility and create new challenges for U.S. military forces in Asia. But the benefits of keeping Taiwan free would have to be weighed against the costs of waging the first armed conflict between great powers since 1945.America must pivot even more from Europe and the Middle East to focus on Asia where the "real" threat is. But say, that real threat is kind of big, don't you know ...
If America abandons Europe to focus on China in the Pacific, I wonder what the next "real" threat we must prepare for at the expense of containing China will be.
With bonus "porcupine" Unicorn-based salvation.
