Don't let the European Union (EU) get you arguing about any specific objective without addressing the foundational argument of whether the EU should even have that power in the first place. Spoiler alert: the EU should not have such power.
This is so completely wrong but the misrepresentation has a purpose:
Most mainstream conversations around the European Union (EU) defense revolve around whether NATO should set a military spending target higher than the current 2% of GDP. The typical underlying assumption – fueled largely by President Trump’s frequent, bombastic remarks – is that the EU has slacked on self-defense for decades, happily free riding on the US’ might. [emphasis added]
The spending target was for European states who are members of NATO--not the EU, which is a proto-imperial body eager to delete the prefix.
But that's what the EU royalty caste do. They want you to think that geographic Europe--numerous sovereign nations--is the same as political Europe--the EU which rules countries as provinces.
They then exploit a crisis in order to increase their own power. The EU couldn't care less about increasing the defense of Europe--properly a NATO function that includes America. The EU is only interested in power. And America stands in their way. Which is why the EU wants to kill NATO.
