Last week I interpreted Saudi Arabia's new policy toward the Palestinians:
The Saudis are telling the Palestinians to stop working with Arab enemies and to get a grip and cut a deal with the Israelis instead of continuing to be the most self-destructive people in the world (well, their leaders who profit from the situation anyway). Well, 'most self-destructive people in the world' is my wording, but that's a good summary.
Prince Bandar bin Sultan was more explicit and backs my interpretation:
The prince’s diatribe against Arafat was only the beginning. His stinging criticism of Palestinian leaders for their obstinancy and hesitations has, he believes, cost the Palestinian people dearly.
He also mentioned Palestinians working with Turks and Iranians--historical enemies of the Arabs.
But the obstinancy and hesitations of the Palestinian leaders have benefited themselves greatly through graft.
It's about time to end their hostage taking of the Palestinian people; and indeed of the region, as every problem was met with the dogmatic response that the Palestinian problem had to be solved first.
