The Great Fly Swatter of China

While it is true that you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar, if you want to kill the flies rather than just attract them, a fly swatter is the preferred method.

Now that's how you dehumanize foes!

Quoting a poem by the founder of Communist China Mao Zedong, China's government said on Wednesday that the efforts by Hong Kong and Taiwan independence supporters to link up were doomed to fail, as they would be dashed to the ground like flies.

So much for talk of local autonomy under Peking's reign or one state-two systems.

Taiwan should take note:

China's military has become alarmed by what it sees as U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's support of Taiwan and is considering strong measures to prevent the island from moving toward independence, sources with ties to senior military officers said. ...

It was not clear whether any decisions had been taken, but the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Taiwan issue had become a hot topic within the upper echelons of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) in recent weeks.

China will absorb Hong Kong and Taiwan if China has the opportunity. Just ask the Tibetans and  Uighurs, especially, who are being diluted by Han migrants to assimilate them into the Peking Borg Collective.

UPDATE: And back to Hong Kong:

China will not allow anyone to use Hong Kong as a base for subversion against mainland China or to damage its political stability, Beijing's top official in the territory told state television.

Funny how the urge not to be unfree subjects is such a touchy--and dangerous--issue for the Communist rulers in Peking.
