This Shouldn't Be Controversial

NATO is doing the right thing--considering it is a military alliance at its most basic level:

NATO has drawn up plans to defend its member states in the Baltics against Russian attack, although the alliance says it no longer regards Russia as a foe, according to diplomatic memos posted on the WikiLeaks secret-sharing site.

There was a time that it seemed like Russia might join the West. Putin has dredged up old Russian paranoia and hostility to wreck that prospect. I'm sure the conspiracy mongers in Russia could work up a Manchurian Candidate scenario to explain why Russia is alienating the greatest military alliance in history while China arms up looming over Russia's poorly defended Far East.
